VENICE - Day 2 - 12 August

Murano Glass

Walking through the Piazza this morning we were confronted by a representative of the Murano Glass Factory, offering free entry and transport. Amazing, we were just going to buy tickets at 20 Euros each, for a boat trip to Murano. We had a Speed boat to ourselves as we were zipped over to the Island.

The skill is truly amazing, we watched a glass artist turn a lump of hot glass into a vase, and then another into a horse. Both were completed within about 5 minutes.

It takes 15 years to learn the skill, and is traditionally only taught to a son. The factory was not operating when we were there as it is August and in typical Italian fashion - "Everybody is on holiday"

To walk through the display area is mind blowing.

If you have 225,000 Euros (approx. $305,00) to spare, you could be the proud owner of a horse !

I was in demand on the Promenade - absolutely everybody wants to be photographed with me.
