BEAUNE to REIMS (France) 17 & 18 July

Taking it easy.

Wednesday we left Beaune riding through the Cote d'Or vineyards. Lovely little laneways through vineyards.
Just a couple of interesting sights along the way

Once we settled in Reims we decided to have dinner at our Hotel, the Restaurant is on the 7th floor giving a very dramatic view over the top of the City including the Cathedrale Notre-Dame.

Thursday (18th) we had a slow day, wandering around the city before visiting the spectacular Cathedrale Notre-Dame.
Until the Revolution French monarchs were crowned here and it remains one of France's most regal cathedrals.
Damaged during the first World War it has been continuously renovated since 1917, current renovations continue due to pollution and age.

ANNECY to BEAUNE (France) 15 & 16 July

Cote d'Or Vineyards

Leaving Annecy we experienced quite a dramatic change in scenery. After so many Alps it was nice to see some greenery, mountains and vineyards.
We chose Beaune as our destination by chance, it seemed like a good place to stop, right in the middle of the Cote d'Or vineyards region. Beaune is a lovely old town centred around Caves as they call them, which are wine cellars to us.
We had a lazy day today, just wandering the town and looking, back to the pool, and then back to town for dinner.

This area is renowned for Chardonnay, it has not disappointed us.

DUINGT to ANNECY (France) 13 & 14 JULY

Taking it easy.

We planned to go to Lyon on Saturday 13th July but all of the travelling we have done over the past 11 weeks has caught up with us.
We decided Annecy with it's beautiful lake was too hard to resist - grand total of 20kms from Duingt. Getting accommodation was difficult as it is very popular and they had a festival on this weekend. After sitting on the grass outside Tourist Info with a brochure and phone in hand we finally got a room in the Old area.
That was unbelievably challenging to get in to. We had to literally ride through pedestrians and stop in front of the hotel, unload and then move the bikes.
Annecy is another surprising town, the old town area, as you will see from the photos is fascinating, and the lake spectacular wth the mountains, including Mont Blanc in the background.

Walking around this morning we were treated to a Military March - not sure what it was all about, but very impressive. The guns are real, so are the bayonets, which they put their hand over when near people - for protection.

So many fascinating little alleyways, note the windows on second & third floors - they are peoples homes.

This is the street outside our hotel - not as busy as when we arrived ( the Gelati at the yellow shop at the end is to die for !!!)

Nougat tried out his Swiss bell while we relaxed over a drink and watched the Hang Gliders on Mount Tournette (2357m) opposite.
