Lake Maggiore and more Swiss Alps.
10.07.2013 - 10.07.2013
We were due for a change of scenery so decided to have a look at Lake Maggiore, just near Bellinzona, which is 70km long and extends from Switzerland into Italy.
Quite spectacular with the Swiss alps in the background.
And then it was time to turn toward Andermatt, the scenery was spectacular.
The Lukmanier Pass (1914m) was quite different to other passes we have seen, it is now mid summer and most of the ice has melted on the lower hillsides, so we are seeing lots of greenery with some snow in the background. Stunning !
Over the pass and down toward Disentis/Muster it was even greener.
Fellow riders being inspectected by Alpacas-
And one more pass for the day - The Oberalpass (2044m) one of the best we have done, more sweeping bends, with some switchbacks, but quite easy riding today with stunning views.
Andermatt is where John Hermann commences his rides detailed in his book. We had to come here and see for ourselves.
The town is nestled amongst huge Alps, way down in the valley.
And another beer for Steve - becoming quite a habit at the end of the day.
The centre of town and some very interesting architecture - a lot of timber is used for the Hotels and Shops.
Our Hotel, the Gasthaus Ski Klub, very nice.
Tomorrow we will be tackling some more John Hermann recommended rides.
